1619 The Truth About All This

Drawing the New York Times’ 1619 Project remembering the 400th anniversary of the arrival of the first enslaved Africans in what would become the United States, the sermon explores telling the story of “the first ones” and the risks and the power of telling truth.  As W.E.B. DuBois wrote in The Propaganda of History in 1935, “Nations reel and stagger on their way; they make hideous mistakes; they commit frightful wrongs; they do great and beautiful things. And shall we not best guide humanity by telling the truth about all this so far as the truth is ascertainable?”

Following the service at 11:30 there will be time for conversation with Tracey about the 1619 Project.
