Waiting and Awake

The Christian Season of Advent is a time of expectant waiting for the birth of Jesus. Given the events of recent days – including tear gassing of refugees at our Southern border, layoffs and plant closings announced by General Motors – waiting can seem like a waste of time, ineffective in the face of the immediate need for action, the urgency of response. The words of the Reverend Michael Tino call us to a different kind of waiting, a time in which we sit with the darkness. . . but sit awake, and gather the tools of resistance and resilience while we wait.”  How do we, why do we, how can we wait like this?
